Former presidential aide, Femi Adesina, has identified ex-President Muhammadu Buhari's love for Nigeria as the one thing Nigerians would miss most about the late leader who passed away on Sunday in London.

According to reports, Buhari died while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness in the United Kingdom. He had reportedly been ill for some time before his passing.

When asked during an appearance on Channels Television what Nigerians would miss most about his former principal, Adesina simply stated, "His love for Nigeria; Buhari loved Nigeria."

Buhari, who served as Nigeria's President from 2015 to 2023, had a presidency marked by economic challenges that many citizens attributed to his policies and leadership approach. During his tenure, he spent at least 225 days outside Nigeria on medical trips, with his longest medical sojourn lasting 104 days in 2017.

Despite criticisms of his administration, Adesina has consistently defended Buhari's legacy. In the same interview, the former presidential spokesman emphasized Buhari's integrity, maintaining that "Buhari was clean, nobody can accuse him of corruption."

The news of Buhari's death has prompted reactions from various quarters, including the Progressive Governors Forum, which has expressed condolences to President Bola Tinubu and Nigerians. Similarly, Governor Bala Mohammed described Buhari's legacy as "indelible" in his tribute.

The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) also acknowledged Buhari's service to Nigeria, while public reactions have been mixed across social media platforms.

In a related development, Kenya has officially removed visa requirements for Nigerians and all African countries, a policy shift that coincides with this period of national reflection following the former president's passing.
