Former President Muhammadu Buhari has died at a clinic in London on Sunday, according to his former spokesman, Garba Shehu. The news has prompted reactions from prominent Nigerian political figures who have expressed their condolences and reflected on his legacy.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, took to social media platform X to honor the late president, describing him as "a great and proud son of Nigeria." In his message, Fani-Kayode wrote: "A great and proud son of Nigeria has passed on today. May the soul of President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR rest in peace."

"From God we came and to Him we return. My family and I pray that Almighty God grants President Muhammadu Buhari al-Jannah firdaus," Omokri stated. "May his sins be forgiven, and may As-Sami, (The All-Hearing) grant his family the fortitude to bear their loss. He served Nigeria in peacetime and war and left a legacy that was worthy of emulation in many areas."

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, offered prayers for the repose of Buhari's soul, writing: "President Muhammadu Buhari; May Allah forgive his soul and grant him Aljanna firdausi. Amin. Inna lillahi wainna Illayhir rajiun."

Buhari, who served as Nigeria's president from 2015 to 2023, had a significant impact on the nation's political landscape. His administration faced numerous challenges including security issues, economic fluctuations, and the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Prior to his presidency, Buhari had served as Nigeria's military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and had maintained a presence in Nigerian politics for decades, running for president multiple times before his eventual victory in 2015.

As the nation mourns the passing of the former president, more reactions are expected from political leaders, international figures, and citizens across Nigeria in the coming days.
