The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nigeria's immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as an uncommon patriot whose leadership kept the nation united.
Mark lamented that Buhari's passing comes at a critical time when Nigeria needs his fatherly guidance to navigate the complex challenges of national leadership.
"Nigeria has lost a hero, an uncommon patriot and a selfless leader who gave his all for the good of our nation. The greatest sacrifice which would be difficult to fault was his love for this country, particularly, her unity," he said.
The former military governor of Niger State added that while the nation mourns Buhari's death, Nigerians can find consolation in the enduring legacy he left behind in preserving the country's unity.
It is worth noting that Senator Mark served as military governor of Niger State between 1984 and 1986 under Buhari's leadership when he was military head of state, establishing a long-standing professional relationship between the two leaders.
Mark's tribute joins a growing list of condolences from prominent Nigerian leaders, including Kebbi State Governor Idris, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and others who have acknowledged Buhari's contributions to Nigeria's development.
