The Lagos State Police Command has announced a complete restriction of vehicular movement across all roads and waterways in the state during the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the command's spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the restriction will be in effect from 3 am until 3 pm on election day.

The police have also implemented additional security measures to ensure a peaceful electoral process. Armed escorts and security aides are strictly prohibited from accompanying their principals to polling units or collation centers.

"Police escorts and armed security aides are strictly prohibited from accompanying their principals to polling units or collation centers. This measure is to prevent any undue influence or intimidation during the election," the statement read.

The command further stated that the indiscriminate use of sirens and vehicles with covered number plates will not be permitted during the election period. "The use of sirens at or in the vicinity of polling units and collation centers is prohibited. Furthermore, only vehicles designated for essential services such as ambulances" are exempted from these restrictions.

However, the police have clarified that accredited election observers and media practitioners covering the election, who have been duly accredited by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), will be exempt from the vehicular movement restriction.

These measures are part of the comprehensive security arrangements put in place by the Lagos State Police Command to ensure that the local government elections are conducted in a peaceful, free, and fair manner.

The upcoming elections will determine the leadership of the various local government areas across Lagos State, Nigeria's commercial capital.
