The Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has cautioned All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates from Lagos West Senatorial District against disrespecting democratic institutions and practices ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
Obasa issued this warning during a strategic meeting with the APC candidates, according to a statement released on Wednesday. The local government elections in Lagos State are scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Despite the party's strong position in the state, the Speaker advised candidates not to become complacent. He urged them to maintain momentum and continue their outreach efforts until the election results are officially announced.
"Engage with everyone in the community, regardless of their ethnic background or religion," Obasa told the candidates. "Your focus should be on serving your constituents with integrity and commitment and you must have respect for democratic institutions and practices."
The meeting was attended by all APC chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship candidates from Lagos West Senatorial District. The Speaker emphasized that candidates should prioritize the interests of residents in their respective areas.
In a previous statement, Obasa had highlighted the importance of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps, noting that the agency was established to assist the Police and other security agencies in maintaining law and order across the state.
The upcoming local government elections are expected to be competitive, with various political parties fielding candidates across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of Lagos State.
