Senator Gabriel Suswam, former Governor of Benue State, has officially informed elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) about the party's strategic decision to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in upcoming elections.
The briefing took place on Wednesday at the Makurdi residence of Terngu Tsegba, who serves as the Benue State Steering Committee Chairman of the National Coalition Movement. The meeting drew PDP elders from all 23 local government areas of the state in preparation for the official unveiling of the ADC to Benue residents.
During the meeting, Senator Suswam emphasized that the ADC would be presented to local communities in the same manner the PDP had previously been introduced, ensuring grassroots ownership of the political platform.
"The same way the PDP was given to the local people, ADC will also be given to the people for ownership," Suswam stated, advocating for an inclusive approach that allows citizens to express themselves freely without undue influence.
The former governor called for the revival of the winning spirit that had previously characterized the PDP's electoral successes, emphasizing that this mindset would be crucial as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. He clarified that joining the ADC remains a matter of personal choice rather than coercion.
This development comes as opposition parties in Nigeria continue to explore strategic realignments to present a formidable challenge to the ruling APC in the next electoral cycle. Political analysts view this move as part of broader efforts to consolidate opposition forces ahead of the 2027 elections.
The official unveiling of the ADC to Benue people is expected to follow soon, with preparations already underway to introduce the party's platform and ideology to potential supporters across the state.
