A three-storey building collapsed on Lagos Island early Thursday morning, leaving several occupants injured and trapped under the rubble.
The structure, located on Asesi Lane near Adeniji Adele Road, suddenly gave way in the early hours, prompting an immediate emergency response from local authorities.
Lagos State Information Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, stating: "Four persons have been rescued from the rubble. They have been taken to hospital."
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) quickly arrived at the scene to coordinate rescue efforts. The team has been working diligently to ensure all occupants are safely evacuated from the collapsed structure.
This incident adds to the growing list of building collapses in Lagos, raising concerns about structural integrity and enforcement of building codes across the metropolis. In recent years, Lagos has witnessed several similar incidents, often attributed to substandard materials, poor workmanship, or unauthorized modifications to existing structures.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of this particular collapse, and investigations are expected to commence once rescue operations are completed.
The condition of the rescued victims remains unknown at this time, as medical personnel attend to them at local healthcare facilities.
