The Kano State Fire Service has disclosed that property valued at ₦273.7 million and five lives were lost to various fire incidents across the state during May 2025.

"The Kano Fire Service received 71 emergency calls, 55 fire calls, 9 rescue operation calls and 7 false alarm calls within the month," Abdullahi stated.
Successful Rescue Operations
Despite the tragic losses, the statement highlighted that the fire service successfully saved property worth ₦446.6 million and rescued five individuals from different fire incidents during the same period.
The director of the State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, has urged residents to exercise caution as the Eid-el-Kabir festivities approach, noting that this period typically sees increased cooking and celebratory activities that heighten the risk of fire outbreaks.
"I want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of the general public to handle fire with care to avoid fire incidences particularly during the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah festival," the statement read.
Safety Advisory for Motorists
In addition to fire safety precautions, motorists were advised to drive carefully and strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations during the festive period to prevent accidents.
The fire service's report comes as residents prepare for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance to prevent further loss of lives and property in the state.
