The Adamawa State Police Command has launched emergency security measures following arson attacks on thatched huts in two neighboring local government areas in southern Adamawa State.
According to police reports, unidentified hoodlums set fire to residential structures in Lafiya village in Lamurde Local Government Area and Boshikiri village in Guyuk Local Government Area on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
The police spokesperson, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, confirmed that properties belonging to Mrs. Ododumga Kenneth and Mr. Nura Haruna were completely destroyed in the coordinated attacks.
Police Response to the Attacks
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered an immediate deployment of police personnel to the affected areas to prevent further escalation of violence and ensure the arrest of the perpetrators.
"The CP warns that anyone found instigating violence or engaging in criminal acts will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law," Nguroje stated in the official police communication released early Thursday.
Security experts have noted that the southern part of Adamawa has experienced sporadic communal tensions in recent years, with property destruction often serving as a precursor to more serious violence if not quickly contained.
Call for Community Vigilance
The police have urged residents of both local government areas to remain calm while maintaining vigilance. Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help prevent further incidents.
Local sources indicate that the attacks have created tension in the affected communities, with some residents expressing fear of potential escalation if the perpetrators are not apprehended quickly.
The police have not yet established the motive behind the attacks or whether they are connected to any existing communal disputes in the area.
