Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, has vehemently condemned the recent deadly attack on Edikwu-Ankpali community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, describing the violence as "unprovoked and unacceptable."

The senator made this declaration on Thursday during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the community, which was recently ravaged by suspected herdsmen. The brutal assault left eleven residents dead, several others injured, and many families displaced from their homes.

Community Under Siege

Accompanied by Hon. Ojotu Ojema, the Member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, and other stakeholders, Senator Moro expressed profound sorrow over the persistent violence plaguing parts of Benue South.

"These killings and kidnappings are unprovoked and unacceptable. Our communities are under constant siege, and it is heartbreaking that despite all the cries for help, the attacks continue unabated," he told the grieving community members.

I will not keep quiet. I will not retreat. I will continue to demand justice and security for our people. This is not just a political responsibility, it is a moral obligation.

Commitment to Security

The Senate Minority Leader reassured residents of his unwavering commitment to advocating for the protection of lives and property. He pledged to continue raising the alarm about the security situation in the region both at the Senate and in collaboration with other elected officials until lasting peace is restored.

The Edikwu-Ankpali attack adds to a growing list of violent incidents in Benue State, particularly in communities along the border areas, which have suffered repeated attacks allegedly perpetrated by armed herdsmen in recent years.

Local sources indicate that the latest attack has further heightened tensions in the area, with survivors expressing fear about returning to their homes without adequate security guarantees.

The Benue State government has repeatedly called for increased federal intervention to address the security challenges facing communities in the state.
