The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a comprehensive weather forecast predicting thunderstorms and rainfall activities across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

According to the weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the northern region will experience thunderstorms with or without rains during the early morning hours over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kaduna States, while the rest of the region will remain sunny with patches of cloud.

Regional Weather Patterns

In the northern region, afternoon and evening hours will see thunderstorms with rains over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Kaduna States.

The central region is expected to experience morning thunderstorms with rains over parts of Niger, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory, while other areas will be sunny with cloud patches. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Plateau, FCT, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Niger States.

For the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy skies with prospects of morning light rains over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. Afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rains are expected over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

Tuesday's Weather Forecast

Tuesday's forecast for the northern region indicates sunny skies with patches of clouds in most areas, with chances of morning scattered thunderstorms and heavy rains over parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Yobe, Sokoto, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Kaduna States.

The central region will experience morning thunderstorms with light rains over parts of the FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Benue States, with similar conditions expected over parts of Nasarawa, FCT, Benue, Kogi, and Plateau States later in the day.

The southern region will have cloudy skies with chances of morning rains over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, followed by thunderstorms with light rains across the region during the afternoon or evening periods.

Wednesday's Weather Outlook

On Wednesday, morning thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Zamfara, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, and Sokoto states in the northern region. Thunderstorms with heavy rains are expected over parts of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa States during the afternoon to evening periods.

The central region will have cloudy skies during the morning hours, with thunderstorms and moderate rains expected across the region in the afternoon to evening periods.

For the southern region, there are prospects of light rains across the entire region throughout the day.

Safety Precautions

NiMet warned that strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur and advised the public to take adequate precautions. The agency recommended ensuring that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision and advised against driving under heavy rain.

Residents are also advised to disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets and stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.

The agency further urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
