The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a three-day weather forecast predicting sunshine and cloudiness across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday, with varying chances of thunderstorms in different regions.
According to the weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja, the northern region will experience sunny skies with patches of cloud on Sunday, with possible morning thunderstorms over parts of Taraba State. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Taraba, Bauchi, Zamfara, and Adamawa States.
For the North-central region, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of clouds, with isolated thunderstorms likely over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi States during morning hours. By afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are anticipated across the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States.
The southern region is expected to experience a cloudy atmosphere with morning thunderstorms over parts of Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa States. Thunderstorms will continue over Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, and Bayelsa States later in the day.
For Monday, the agency predicts sunny skies with patches of clouds in the northern region, with morning thunderstorms possible over parts of Taraba State. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over Kebbi, Taraba, Kaduna, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Adamawa States.
The North-central region will see sunny skies with patches of clouds during morning hours on Monday, while isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Kogi States later in the day.
In the southern region, morning thunderstorms are expected over Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Imo, Abia, Osun, Cross River, Delta, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom States on Monday. By afternoon and evening, isolated thunderstorms will likely affect Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Lagos States.
For Tuesday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of clouds in the northern region, with thunderstorms expected over Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Kaduna States during afternoon or evening hours.
The North-central region will experience sunny skies with patches of cloud, with morning thunderstorms likely over Benue, Niger, Kogi, and Kwara States. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Kogi States.
In the southern region on Tuesday, morning thunderstorms are expected over Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States. Isolated thunderstorms will likely affect most parts of the southern states later in the day.
NiMet has advised the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede rainfall in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The agency also urged the public to ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision and to avoid driving during heavy rainfall.
Additionally, airline operators have been advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning of their operations.
