The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its weather outlook for Wednesday through Friday, forecasting a combination of sunshine and thunderstorms across various regions of the country.
According to the forecast released in Abuja, the northern region will experience predominantly sunny skies on Wednesday, with isolated thunderstorms expected over parts of Taraba, Borno, Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa during the afternoon and evening hours.
For the North-central region, NiMet predicts sunny skies with patches of clouds, with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi later in the day.
The southern region is expected to experience morning thunderstorms over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over Imo, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Edo, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states.
Thursday's Weather Outlook
On Thursday, the northern region will continue to see sunny skies with isolated thunderstorms expected over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, and Kaduna states.
The North-central region will experience sunny skies with patches of clouds and isolated thunderstorms over Plateau, FCT, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi during the afternoon and evening hours.
In the southern region, morning thunderstorms are anticipated over Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with thunderstorms expected later in the day over Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Lagos, Cross River, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta states.
Friday's Weather Forecast
For Friday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with few clouds over the northern region, with chances of isolated thunderstorms over Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba during the afternoon and evening period.
The North-central region will see sunny skies with patches of clouds and prospects of isolated thunderstorms over Plateau, FCT, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi later in the day.
Morning thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom in the southern region. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Lagos states.
Safety Precautions
NiMet has urged the public to take adequate precautions as strong winds might precede rainfall in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The agency advised that loose objects should be properly secured to avoid collision.
Additionally, airline operators have been advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning of their operations during this period.
