Troops have successfully apprehended 25 suspected bandits and kidnappers during a coordinated security operation along the Katsina-Ala–Takum Federal Highway in Benue State, according to a statement released by the Benue State Police Command.

The operation, conducted on Monday, was initiated following intelligence reports indicating planned attacks on Tor-Donga town by suspected armed herdsmen and bandits.

Operation Details

According to the police statement, credible intelligence led the patrol team to Gbise, a known flashpoint along the highway, where four suspects were initially apprehended after attempting to flee upon sighting the security convoy.

"While returning to Tor-Donga, the operatives again sighted suspicious movement around the same Gbise area. A general raid of the surroundings was carried out, leading to the arrest of 21 more suspects believed to be linked to recent kidnappings and banditry in the area," the statement detailed.

Security measures have been heightened in Katsina-Ala and surrounding areas in response to growing concerns over armed herdsmen attacks and kidnapping incidents that have plagued the region in recent months.

Regional Security Context

This operation comes amid increasing security challenges in Benue State, particularly along border communities where banditry and kidnapping have become prevalent. The Katsina-Ala–Takum Federal Highway has been identified as a strategic corridor used by criminal elements operating in the area.

The successful operation represents a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb insecurity in the region, as authorities continue to implement proactive measures to protect communities from armed attacks.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the suspects or specific charges they may face as investigations continue.
