Pepsodent, a leading global toothpaste brand, has launched its 2025 Brush Day & Night awareness campaign targeting 2.7 million pupils across Nigeria as part of ongoing efforts to improve oral hygiene among children.

The initiative will reach 4,567 schools across six locations, beginning with Lagos, Abuja, and Kano in the current term, followed by Enugu, Owerri, and Port Harcourt in the next term.

21-Day Challenge to Build Lifelong Habits

At the heart of the campaign is the 21-Day Brush Day and Night Challenge, designed to encourage children to brush their teeth for at least two minutes twice daily. The program aims to establish proper oral hygiene habits that will last a lifetime and reduce cavity risks.

Mary Akindola, Brand Manager for Pepsodent, emphasized the importance of the initiative: "School absenteeism among pupils is often linked to dental problems, which can be prevented with simple oral hygiene routines. By encouraging children to brush their teeth twice daily for at least two minutes, we can significantly reduce the risk of tooth decay."

She added that according to world oral health data, almost half of the global population struggles with cavities, highlighting the need for early intervention.

Creating Oral Health Ambassadors

The campaign not only focuses on improving individual oral health but also aims to transform children into "oral hygiene ambassadors" within their communities. By instilling these habits early, Pepsodent hopes to raise a generation of healthy, confident future leaders.

Gloria Olatunbosun, Consumer Engagement Center Specialist for Unilever, explained that the program equips children with knowledge and habits needed to reduce oral health issues through consistent brushing with fluoride-based toothpaste.

Community Support and Appreciation

Education Secretary of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Education Authority, Barrister Remi-Williams Abiola, commended Pepsodent for consistently supporting oral health education in the Local Government. He called on parents and local authorities to collaborate in sustaining the initiative.

Mrs. Ezeoke Chinenye, Headteacher at Oladipo Primary School 1 in Iganmu, also praised the program for educating children, particularly those whose parents may lack knowledge about proper oral hygiene practices.

The campaign's launch event was attended by various stakeholders, including the Head Girl and Head Boy of Oladipo Primary School 1, demonstrating the community-wide engagement the initiative has generated.
