Doctors at the General Hospital in Bama, Borno State, have successfully performed an emergency surgical procedure to reattach the genitals of a 50-year-old man who attempted suicide following a domestic crisis.
The patient, identified as Modu Isa from Hausari Ward in Bama, reportedly inflicted severe injuries on himself by stabbing his abdomen three times before cutting off his genitals in what appears to be an extreme emotional reaction.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the incident on social media platform X on Saturday, the medical team at Bama General Hospital conducted the complex procedure under emergency conditions.
Hospital sources confirmed to BenriNews that Isa is currently in stable condition and responding positively to treatment following the surgical intervention.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday evening when community members in Hausari Ward heard distress and rushed to Isa's residence, where they found him severely injured. They immediately transported him to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Investigations reveal that the extreme act was triggered after Isa's former wife, Bayanxe Modu from Konduga, refused to return to their marital home. Sources familiar with the situation indicated that Isa had previously divorced his wife three times, a significant factor in the domestic dispute.
Following initial treatment and stabilization, security operatives have transferred the case to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Mental health experts note that such extreme self-harm incidents often indicate severe emotional distress and underlying psychological issues that require professional intervention beyond physical medical treatment.
The medical achievement highlights the capabilities of emergency surgical teams in Borno State's healthcare facilities, even in challenging circumstances.
