The Abia State government has called on residents of Nenu and the broader Obingwa Local Government Area to make full use of the Nenu Specialist Hospital, an annex of Abia State University Teaching Hospital, rather than seeking treatment from unqualified medical practitioners.

During a facility tour of the hospital, Professor Enoch Uche, the Commissioner for Health, emphasized that the hospital has significantly expanded beyond its previous capacity when it was part of Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH).

"This facility now boasts equipment not commonly found in local hospitals, including ECG, Theatre, Ultrasound, and a specialized Labour Ward for pregnant women," said Professor Uche, who was represented by Professor Uzoma Nduka, the Chief Medical Director of ABSUTH.

The Commissioner also noted that ABSUTH has successfully passed all necessary accreditations, ensuring quality healthcare delivery to the community. He commended the people of Nenu for their supportive attitude toward the partnership between the two major medical establishments.

Mayor Maxwell Nwadike of Obingwa LGA expressed gratitude to Dr. Chris Akomas, National Chairman of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors Nigeria, and the entire Nenu community for establishing the hospital. He predicted that the community would now see an influx of patients from other parts of the state rather than locals leaving to seek treatment elsewhere.

In his remarks, Dr. Akomas promised that an MRI machine would soon be installed at the hospital to further enhance its diagnostic capabilities and meet the needs of the local population.

The upgraded specialist hospital represents a significant improvement in healthcare access for rural communities in Abia State, potentially reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for quality medical care.
