Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has expressed that President Bola Tinubu's visit to the state has provided residents with renewed hope and strength during a challenging period marked by security concerns.

In a statement released on Thursday in Makurdi by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia commended President Tinubu for ordering the arrest of armed herders who have been terrorizing Benue communities and other parts of the country.

Presidential Commitment to Security

"We deeply appreciate your commitment to addressing the security challenges, particularly your directive to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police. Your decisive action to neutralise the threats posed by armed herders reassures us that our safety and the return of our farmers to their lands are priorities for your administration," Alia stated.

The governor expressed gratitude for Tinubu's visit following tragic events in the state, especially what he described as a "pogrom" at Yelwata town. He also acknowledged the solidarity shown by fellow governors, particularly the Progressive Governors' Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodinma.

"Your collective efforts demonstrated a united front against violence and a shared commitment to the well-being of communities across the country," he added.

Path Forward for Benue

Governor Alia assured Benue residents that his administration would continue working with all critical stakeholders toward rebuilding and restoring peace in the state. He emphasized that the people of Benue take solace in the leadership and compassion shown by the President, governors, and other well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult time.

The presidential visit comes amid ongoing security challenges in Benue State, where farmer-herder conflicts have caused significant displacement and loss of life in recent years.

According to reports, President Tinubu is expected to commission several projects in neighboring Kaduna State, including a healthcare center and compressed natural gas (CNG) buses, as part of his ongoing engagement with states across the federation.
