Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the murder of two travelers from Kano State who were killed by hoodlums in Agan community of Makurdi, describing the incident as "barbaric and unacceptable."
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Makurdi by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, the governor revealed that five suspects have already been arrested in connection with the crime.
Governor's Response to the Incident
"I'm deeply saddened by the murder of two persons who were travelling through Benue from Kano state by some criminal elements," Alia stated. "Benue people are known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition. We cannot allow some criminal elements to tarnish our good image and create a contrary one for our people."
The governor emphasized that the perpetrators "must be fished out immediately and made to face the full wrath of the law."
Governor Alia also extended his condolences to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and the families of the deceased over the tragic loss.
Preventing Escalation
"Earlier in the day, I spoke with my brother, Gov. Abba Yusuf over the unfortunate incident," Alia disclosed. "We are working closely towards ensuring that this incident doesn't escalate into security breach in any part of the country."
The incident comes amid ongoing security challenges in parts of Benue State, raising concerns about the safety of travelers passing through the region.
