The Katsina State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt in Mazare village, Sabuwa Local Government Area, rescuing three women and an infant girl during a gun battle with suspected bandits.

According to security reports, the incident occurred around 12:21 a.m. on Tuesday when armed men invaded the village with intent to abduct residents. Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Sabuwa promptly mobilized a team of officers in Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) patrol vehicles to the scene.

The swift response by police operatives led to a fierce gun duel with the assailants, resulting in the successful rescue of all four victims who had been initially taken by the attackers.

Casualties and Ongoing Security Efforts

Two residents identified as Saidu Isa and Saidu Wa'alam sustained injuries during the attack and were rushed to Haske Private Hospital in Sabuwa for medical treatment.

Counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident on Wednesday via his official X handle, noted that security operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and restore calm to the area.

This rescue operation highlights the continued security challenges facing communities in Katsina State, particularly in areas bordering the notorious Rugu Forest, which has been a hideout for criminal elements in recent years.

The successful operation also demonstrates the effectiveness of rapid response protocols implemented by security agencies to counter the threat of banditry in the northwestern region.
