Troops of 3 Division and Operation Safe Haven have successfully apprehended a suspected bandit disguised in military uniform and recovered various weapons during separate operations conducted in Kaduna and Plateau states.
On June 15, security forces intercepted a suspect at Katsit community in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The individual was reportedly dressed in military combat camouflage, which authorities believe was used to intimidate and rob local residents.
Weapons and Items Recovered
Items recovered from the suspect include an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and seven empty shells. Additionally, troops found a fake vigilante identification card, a mobile phone, and two ATM cards in his possession. The suspect is currently in military custody undergoing further investigation.
In a separate operation conducted on June 16, troops raided a suspected gunrunner's hideout at Kwanar Lauje in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. Although the suspects managed to escape before the arrival of the troops, a thorough search of the premises yielded significant findings.
Plateau State Arms Cache Discovery
The search operation in Plateau State led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, an AK-47 rifle butt, 300 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a 9mm round, two 12.7mm rounds, and an abandoned motorcycle. Military authorities confirmed that all recovered items are now in custody while follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
These operations highlight the ongoing efforts by security forces to combat banditry and illegal arms proliferation in the northern region of Nigeria. The use of military uniforms by criminals to perpetrate crimes continues to be a challenge for security agencies and communities alike.
Military sources indicated that the operations are part of broader security measures to restore peace and stability in areas affected by banditry and other security challenges.
