The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed that Israeli Air Force fighter jets conducted a high-precision strike on a ballistic missile engine production facility near Shahrud in central Iran on Sunday.
IDF Spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin revealed during a press briefing that the targeted facility, located approximately 2,000 kilometres from Israel, was a crucial component of Iran's surface-to-surface missile manufacturing infrastructure.
"The strike successfully targeted planetary mixers and other critical machinery used to produce missile engines," Defrin stated. "These are the same types of engines that have been used in recent attacks against Israel."
Strategic Military Operation
According to the IDF, this attack forms part of a broader strategy aimed at "disrupting the Iranian regime's missile production industry." Military officials have warned that Iran's facilities are capable of producing thousands of ballistic missiles over the coming years if left unchecked.
The strike comes amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with reports indicating thousands of civilians fleeing Tehran following recent Israeli attacks. The IDF has also reportedly urged Iranians to evacuate areas near nuclear zones, warning that their lives are at risk.
This military action follows comments from Pope Leo describing the situation in the Middle East as "alarming" and stating that "war doesn't solve problems."
The IDF's Army intelligence chief has indicated that operations in Iran are set to expand, suggesting further military actions may be forthcoming.
