The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has issued a strong challenge to the Federal Government to take immediate action to end the escalating killings across Nigeria, particularly condemning recent attacks that have claimed over 200 innocent lives in Benue State communities.
PRP National Chairman, Falalu Bello, in a statement released on Monday, expressed outrage over the attacks in Yelewata and Daudu communities in Benue State, as well as the abduction of motorists along the Lafiya-Makurdi corridor.
Government Priorities Questioned
"It is profoundly disheartening that while our people are being slaughtered, villages razed, and livelihoods destroyed, the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC administration remains indifferent or unable to provide the security assurances promised to the Nigerian people," Bello stated.
The PRP chairman accused the government of being preoccupied with political activities rather than addressing the security crisis, noting that officials seem more focused on "organizing high-profile meetings, conferences, and endorsements for the 2027 elections" instead of protecting citizens.
Katsina State Violence Highlighted
Bello also drew attention to the situation in Kankara Local Government in Katsina State, where bandits have intensified attacks since the beginning of the rainy season. He cited a specific incident on June 12, 2025, when bandits raided Yargoje ward on Democracy Day, resulting in approximately 30 deaths with many people still missing.
"Similar attacks in Gidandaudu and other locations have become a weekly occurrence, with bandits operating during the day and walking away unchallenged," he added.
The PRP leader described the security situation as "an epidemic of violence that continues to threaten the very fabric of our nation," and criticized the government's response as showing "a lack of political will, strategic planning, and commitment to the safety of Nigerian citizens."
Call for Government Action
Bello called on the Federal Government to prioritize the security of Nigerians over political considerations, stating that citizens "deserve a government that works for their safety, not one preoccupied with 2027 political manipulations."
The statement comes amid growing concerns about the government's ability to contain various security challenges across different regions of the country.
