The Nigerian government has officially launched a digital portal for the upcoming Nigeria Youth Conference, also known as the National Youth Confab, aimed at engaging young Nigerians in policy discussions and national development.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayode Olawande, announced the launch on Monday, emphasizing that the conference will be "inclusive, non-partisan and youth-led." The theme for the event is "Next Gen Nigeria: Crafting Solutions, Owning the Future."
According to Olawande, the portal will serve as a comprehensive platform for delegates to register, contribute ideas, and receive real-time updates throughout the duration of the conference.
"This initiative is more than just a conference," the minister stated, describing it as "a generational turning point, a national movement, and a call to action."
Background of the Youth Confab
President Bola Tinubu first announced plans for the 30-day Youth Confab during his Independence Day broadcast in October 2024. Following this announcement, the President officially inaugurated a 44-member Planning Committee for the National Youth Conference at the State House in Abuja in March 2025.
The conference represents a significant step in the government's efforts to incorporate youth perspectives into national policy-making and development strategies, particularly at a time when Nigeria's youth population continues to grow and demand greater involvement in governance.
BenriNews recalls that youth engagement has been a recurring theme in President Tinubu's administration, with several initiatives launched to address youth unemployment and political participation since he took office.
The digital nature of the portal aligns with the government's ongoing efforts to leverage technology in governance and public engagement, potentially allowing for broader participation beyond physical attendance at the conference.
Further details regarding the specific dates for the conference and the selection process for delegates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
