Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to avoid anti-social behaviour and instead focus on becoming agents of positive change in their host communities.
The governor made this call during the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 NYSC Batch "A", Stream II orientation course at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu on Friday.
Partners in Development
Abiodun described the Corps members as "partners in development and ambassadors of progress" in their host communities. He emphasized that their contributions would be vital to the progress of the country and specifically to the success of Ogun State's 'building our future together agenda'.
"Our administration will continue to invest significantly in initiatives that promote job creation, enterprise development, digital skills training, food security, and educational advancement," the governor stated.
He further explained his administration's focus through the I.S.E.Y.A mantra—Infrastructure, Social Welfare and Well-being, Education, Youth Empowerment, and Agriculture—which aims to lay a sustainable foundation for long-term prosperity in the state.
Call for Meaningful Contributions
The governor encouraged the Corps members to align with his administration's vision by contributing meaningfully to their host communities during their service year.
"Demonstrate patriotism, compassion, discipline, and leadership in all that you do. Avoid all forms of anti-social behaviour. Instead, become role models and change agents who will uplift and inspire others," Abiodun advised.
He reminded the Corps members that their actions during the service year would shape their legacy and leave lasting impressions on many lives.
NYSC Coordinator's Advice
Earlier, the State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, described the three-week orientation exercise as a structured program designed to instill discipline and self-reliance in the Corps members.
She advised them to identify the needs of their host communities and work towards addressing them during their service period. Nasamu also encouraged the Corps members to learn at least two skills for self-reliance, noting that "white collar jobs are becoming increasingly scarce."
The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive development, recognizing the strategic role of the NYSC programme in shaping the next generation of responsible citizens and transformational leaders.
