Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has urged newly deployed National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to leave lasting legacies in their host communities during their service year in the state.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, made this call on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2025 Batch 'A' Stream II Corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.

Commitment to Youth Development

Governor Otti pledged his administration's commitment to strengthening the NYSC scheme and enhancing its capacity to instill patriotic values in young graduates. He encouraged the Corps members to draw inspiration from their predecessors who made significant contributions to their host communities.

"Foster love, harmony, and productive integration across the state and nation," the governor advised, promising rewards for those who positively impact the lives of Abia residents during their service year.

NYSC Coordinator Acknowledges Infrastructure Improvements

In her address, the NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Mrs. Gladys Adama, commended Governor Otti's efforts in upgrading and rehabilitating the scheme's physical structures, including the orientation camp, internal road network, and other facilities.

While expressing gratitude for providing a safe and enabling environment for Corps members, Mrs. Adama noted that the Abia State Secretariat of the NYSC is currently in a dilapidated condition.

She urged the Corps members to exhibit a high sense of responsibility towards nation-building and prepare themselves for the challenges of the service year ahead.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Justice C.E. Anyim, who represented the Chief Judge of Abia State, Justice Lilian Abai.
