Several notorious bandit kingpins operating in Dan Musa Local Government Area of Katsina State have surrendered their weapons and released 16 kidnapped victims as part of an ongoing disarmament initiative.
The surrender and release took place on Saturday under the coordination of Operation Fasin Yamma in collaboration with local stakeholders. The freed hostages include seven women and nine children who have now been handed over to appropriate local government authorities for care and reunification with their families.
Prominent Bandit Leaders Involved
Among those who laid down their arms were well-known bandit leaders including Kamulu Buzaru, Manore, Nagwaggo, Lalbi, Alhaji Sani, Dogo Baidu, Dogo Nahalle, and Abdulkadir Black. These individuals have been active in the region's kidnapping and banditry operations.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, the group has pledged to release additional captives still in their custody by Sunday. The military confirmed that all surrendered weapons have been secured as part of the disarmament process.
Ongoing Security Efforts
This development represents a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to address insecurity in Katsina State, which has been plagued by banditry and kidnapping in recent years. Operation Fasin Yamma continues to work with community leaders and stakeholders to encourage more armed groups to surrender and release their captives.
The surrender comes amid intensified security operations across Nigeria's northwestern states, where authorities have been combining military action with dialogue to address the persistent security challenges.
