A 17-year-old boy identified as Malik has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his father's wife, Falilat Yusuf, to death at the Danialu, Gaa Akanbi area of Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

According to witnesses, the tragic incident occurred around 2 pm on Friday, shortly after the conclusion of the congregational prayers.

A neighbor who requested anonymity told BenriNews, "A woman was stabbed to death in her house. I am not sure of the exact time, but it was around 2 pm when I heard people screaming and rushing to the house. She is popularly known as Iya Ganiyat and her husband is Alhaji Gani."

"She was stabbed multiple times on her neck allegedly by a young man, who is the son of her husband's concubine. The boy has been arrested and taken to the police station," the neighbor added.

Family Dynamics and Previous Warnings

Residents disclosed on Sunday that Malik's mother is reportedly intended to become the second wife of the deceased woman's husband. Both women resided within the same vicinity but in separate apartments rented by their mutual husband.

Teslim, one of the sons of the deceased, revealed that the suspect had been previously warned not to come to their home due to recurring theft-related concerns.

"The moment our eyes met, he ran away. When I entered the house, I found my mother in a pool of blood. I raised an alarm that attracted the neighbors and family members," Teslim recounted.

"Malik returned shortly after, having changed his clothes. Traces of blood were found on his shoes before he was apprehended and handed over to the police," he added.

Victim Had Received Threats

Another resident, Mrs. Omotayo, disclosed that the deceased, who was a potato seller, had left her shop earlier that day due to threats and rising tension.

The body of Falilat Yusuf has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Ejire Adeyemi Adetoun, neither confirmed nor denied the incident but requested a message. She had yet to respond to the text message sent to her as at the time of filing this report.

This incident adds to growing concerns about domestic violence and family-related crimes in the state.
