The British High Commission in India has announced it is working closely with local authorities to establish facts about the London-bound Air India flight that crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport on Thursday.
The ill-fated aircraft lost signal moments after departing Ahmedabad airport. According to reports, the flight was carrying 242 passengers, including 53 British citizens, 169 Indians, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian.
The Indian Express reports that only one person, identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, survived the crash, while 241 passengers are feared dead.
In a brief statement posted on its X account, the British High Commission wrote: "We are aware that a flight from Ahmedabad to London has crashed near Ahmedabad airport. We are working with local authorities to urgently establish the facts and provide support. Our thoughts are with all those affected."
