United States President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, potentially ending what he described as "The 12-Day War" between the two nations.
Trump made the announcement on Monday through his official Truth Social account, describing the agreement as a "complete and total ceasefire" that would take effect approximately six hours after his statement.
"Congratulations to everyone! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a complete and total CEASEFIRE," Trump wrote. According to his statement, Iran would initiate the ceasefire, with Israel following at the 12th hour, and an official end to the conflict would be marked at the 24th hour.
US Military Involvement
The announcement comes after significant escalation in the conflict, including the United States' direct military intervention over the weekend when it bombed three of Iran's nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.
Iran reportedly retaliated by targeting Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, though authorities have downplayed the impact of this strike.
In his statement, Trump praised both nations for their "stamina, courage, and intelligence" in ending the conflict, which he claimed "could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East."
Unconfirmed Agreement
As of the time of reporting, neither Israeli military authorities nor Iranian officials have confirmed the ceasefire agreement announced by Trump.
The conflict has already resulted in casualties, with reports indicating that at least three people were killed when an Iranian missile struck Southern Israel.
Global oil prices have also been affected by the tensions, rising by nearly 3% following the US military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.
