Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that Israel has agreed to US President Donald Trump's proposal for a ceasefire with Iran, stating that the country has achieved its goal of removing Tehran's nuclear and ballistic missile threat.
According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's office on Tuesday, "Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their support in defense and their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat."
"In light of the achievement of the operation's goals, and in full coordination with President Trump, Israel agreed to the President's proposal for a mutual ceasefire," the statement continued.
Trump Announces Ceasefire
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump announced that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was now in place and urged both countries not to violate it. This announcement came just hours after Iran launched waves of missiles at Israel, which reportedly killed at least four people, according to Israel's ambulance service.
Netanyahu, who is scheduled to deliver a statement later on Tuesday, warned that Israel would respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Recent Military Actions
The ceasefire follows a series of military actions over the weekend, during which Israel, joined by the United States, carried out attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities. Israel had accused Tehran of being close to obtaining a nuclear weapon, an allegation that Iran has consistently denied.
The conflict escalation has raised significant concerns across the international community about the potential for a wider regional war in the Middle East, with diplomatic efforts intensifying to prevent further hostilities.
Reports also indicate that a senior Iranian official has confirmed Tehran's agreement to the ceasefire with Israel, suggesting both sides are willing to de-escalate the situation for now.
