President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound shock and extended heartfelt condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad.

The ill-fated aircraft was carrying 181 passengers and 12 crew members, including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian citizen. The flight crew consisted of two pilots and 10 cabin crew members.

In a condolence message released through his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu conveyed Nigeria's solidarity with India during this difficult time. He also extended sympathies to the leaders of Great Britain, Portugal, and Canada over the loss of their nationals in the crash.

"The tragedy of Air India reminds us, once again, of the fragility of life and the common bond of humanity that holds us together," President Tinubu stated. "At this moment of sorrow and pain, Nigeria stands in solidarity with our friend, brother and partner, Narendra Modi, and the people of India. Nigeria also deeply sympathises with the families and friends of other victims on board the aircraft."

The Nigerian President commended the swift response of emergency agencies in India and expressed confidence in their capacity to manage the complicated situation with compassion and efficiency.

Tinubu concluded his message with prayers for the souls of the departed and comfort for the bereaved families.
