The Katsina State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has suspended Aminu Usman, its Dutsin-Ma Local Government Chairman, following his unauthorized announcement regarding a purported road closure in the area.

According to a joint statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Zango, and the Chairman of the Katsina State NURTW, Musa Yandoma, the suspension came after Usman announced on Wednesday the closure of the Dutsin-Ma–Turare–Yantumaki–Marabar Kankara road, citing security concerns.

The Katsina State Government promptly debunked the claim, emphasizing that there was no official directive for any road closure in the region.

Government's Response to the False Announcement

"The attention of Katsina State Government has been drawn to a release purportedly written and signed by Aminu Usman, chairman of NURTW Dutsinma branch, that motorists should stop following Dutsinma, Turare, Yantumaki, Mararrabar Kankara road, saying the road has been closed," the statement read.

In response to the situation, the state branch of the NURTW disowned the announcement and suspended Usman for making and signing the release without consulting the state office or other relevant authorities.

The Katsina State Government and security agencies have further clarified that the road remains open and has not been closed. They assured the public that the route is safe for travel and that normal movement should continue along the corridor.

This incident highlights the importance of proper communication channels, especially regarding matters that affect public safety and movement in areas that have previously experienced security challenges.

The unauthorized announcement had caused temporary confusion among travelers and residents in the affected areas before the government's swift intervention to correct the misinformation.
