The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has announced the cancellation of all plans for this year's Eid durbar celebration, citing security concerns as the primary reason for the decision.

According to a statement signed by the Emirates Secretary, Malam Awaisu Abbas Sanusi, the decision was reached after thorough consultations with security personnel and other stakeholders who warned of potential security breaches from unscrupulous elements.

"The decision to suspend all durbar plans was to safeguard the lives and properties of people of the state," the statement explained.

Not The First Cancellation

This marks the second consecutive cancellation of the traditional durbar celebration in Kano. A similar suspension was enforced during the last Eid-el-Fitr celebrations earlier this year, where processions were also halted for similar security reasons.

The Emirate has urged residents to continue praying for peace and stability in Kano and across Nigeria despite the cancellation of the colorful cultural event that typically attracts tourists and dignitaries.

Contrasting Preparations

The announcement comes at a time when the Kano state recognized Emirate, under Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II, had reportedly begun preparations for Sallah activities despite police warnings about security concerns.

This development highlights the ongoing tensions between the parallel emirates in Kano, with both Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi II claiming the emirship of the ancient city.

The Kano Police Command had earlier restated restrictions on durbar celebrations ahead of Eid-el-Kabir, emphasizing that the measure was necessary to maintain peace and order in the state.

The traditional Eid durbar is a colorful horse parade that dates back centuries and remains an important cultural heritage in northern Nigeria, particularly in Kano where it attracts thousands of spectators annually.
