The Senior Pastor of The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has made serious allegations regarding the ongoing crisis in Benue State, claiming that Nigerian politicians are directly involved in arming Fulani herders with AK-47 rifles.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Pastor Giwa alleged that the affairs of Nigeria have been "handed over to foreigners and criminals" who are benefitting from the activities of armed herders.
"On Benue massacre, we have handed over the affairs of Nigeria into the hands of criminals. Is it possible to put an armed robber in charge of money in the banks?" Giwa questioned.
"No! Nigeria has handed over the affairs of the nation into the hands of foreigners who want to finish everything before the expiration of their term," he added.
Politicians Allegedly Benefitting from Herders' Activities
The clergyman pointed fingers at political figures, suggesting they are the ones behind the presence of terrorist groups in the country.
"Who brought Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen, and other terrorists to Nigeria? Who? Are they not politicians?" he asked rhetorically.
According to Pastor Giwa, it has become difficult to address the issue of Fulani herders because politicians themselves have vested interests in their operations.
"Most of them are into cattle business, putting terrorists in charge of it and buying them AK-47 rifles. Do you want such politicians to display justice?" he questioned.
The pastor expressed particular concern about the loss of innocent lives, stating: "My concern is the souls of innocent Nigerians they are wasting on a daily basis."
Religious Perspective on the Crisis
Giwa also offered a religious perspective on the situation, suggesting that hypocrisy and deceit have contributed to the ongoing crisis.
"We are hypocrites, and that's why it seems God doesn't answer our prayers. We turn black to white and yellow to purple. God doesn't stay in an environment full of lies and deceit. Because His nature is inherently holy and separate from sin and evil," he stated.
The Benue crisis has continued to draw reactions from various stakeholders, with calls for government intervention to address the security challenges in the region.
