Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commissioned several key infrastructure projects in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, including a new council secretariat complex named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The multi-storey administrative building, delivered by council chairman Hon. Abdullahi Olowa, replaces the previous structure that was destroyed during the October 2020 #EndSARS protests. The modern facility features an ICT centre, CCTV surveillance systems, and 24-hour solar-powered lighting.
During Wednesday's ceremony, Sanwo-Olu also commissioned a legislative chamber and an interlocking road project in the area.
Commitment to Grassroots Development
"These impactful projects underscore our commitment to inclusive development and responsive grassroots governance," Governor Sanwo-Olu said at the event. "They reflect the progress inspired by our themes, plus agenda and the determination of this community to rebuild and thrive."
The governor also flagged off construction work on Citrus Gardens, a housing initiative being executed through a public-private partnership, aimed at boosting residential options in the rapidly developing area.
Infrastructure Expansion Plans
Sanwo-Olu announced significant infrastructure plans for the region, including the expansion of Eleranigbe Road and the construction of a bridge linking Sangotedo to the Lekki airport corridor.
"We've commenced the Sangotedo Bridge crossing Omu Creek, and once completed, it will unlock access across this entire axis," the governor explained, highlighting the strategic importance of the project for the area's development.
Council chairman Olowa described the new secretariat as "one of the most advanced council complexes in the country," featuring high-speed internet and smart infrastructure designed to foster innovation in local governance.
He added that the Citrus Gardens project would significantly boost economic activity in Ibeju-Lekki. "With features like paved roads, security, indoor recreation, and green spaces, this estate will redefine sustainable living in our community," Olowa noted.
The commissioning of these projects marks a significant step in the ongoing development of the Ibeju-Lekki area, which has become a major focus for infrastructure investment in Lagos State.
