The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully conducted precision airstrikes against a terrorist enclave in Bukar Meram, located on the southern fringe of Lake Chad, effectively neutralizing several terrorists and disrupting their planned attacks.
The operation, carried out under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), took place at approximately 5:45 a.m. on June 9, 2025, as part of Operation KALACHEN WUTA II—a strategic offensive designed to curtail terrorist activities in the Lake Chad region during the festive period.
According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, intelligence-led surveillance revealed that terrorists were regrouping at the Bukar Meram location with intentions to launch coordinated attacks on the Marte and Monguno general areas.
"Intelligence-led surveillance revealed that the terrorists were regrouping at the Bukar Meram location with intent to launch coordinated attacks on Marte and Monguno general areas. Prompted by this credible intelligence, the Air Component swiftly mobilised to engage the enclave," Makama stated.
Significant Damage to Terrorist Infrastructure
The precision airstrikes resulted in the destruction of critical terrorist logistics, including supply vehicles, makeshift shelters, and weapons storage points. This decimation not only inflicted significant casualties on the terrorists but also severely disrupted their operational planning and movement capabilities.
A subsequent Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) confirmed that the planned attacks on Marte and Monguno were successfully neutralized. Military authorities continue to gather intelligence to track enemy reactions and movement patterns.
Meanwhile, ground troops have been placed on high alert to apply pressure on fleeing terrorist remnants, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the counter-terrorism operation.
This successful operation represents another significant step in Nigeria's ongoing efforts to secure the Lake Chad region and protect civilian populations from terrorist threats.
