The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a strong directive to Nigerian troops to decisively confront all forms of security threats facing the nation.
The charge was delivered during the Eid-el-Adha lunch with troops at the Forward Operation Base (FOB) of Sub-sector 6, Operation Fansan Yanma, located in Fatika, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Maj.-Gen. Erema Akerejola, Chief of Logistics of the Nigerian Army, represented the COAS at the event where he paid tribute to soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for Nigeria's unity, peace, and stability.
Commendation for Troops' Bravery
Oluyede acknowledged the exceptional courage demonstrated by Nigerian Army troops, noting their "unalloyed loyalty, uncommon courage and faith," which have led to significant victories despite dangerous circumstances.
The COAS expressed gratitude for the relative peace that has been restored across many parts of the country while renewing the Army's commitment to securing an even more stable future for Nigeria.
He recognized that many troops bear physical evidence of their bravery through battle scars and injuries, while others carry the emotional weight of their service experiences.
Honoring Fallen Heroes
In a solemn moment, the Army Chief offered prayers for fallen heroes and assured their families that their sacrifices would forever be remembered by Nigerians.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to defending the nation's territorial integrity against all adversaries.
Oluyede highlighted the significance of Eid-El-Kabir as a festival that emphasizes the virtue of sacrifice, noting that it serves as a reminder of the strength found in selflessness and compassion toward others.
Appreciation for Leadership Support
The COAS expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his "unflinching support, focused leadership and strategic guidance" to the Nigerian Army.
He also thanked Nigerians for their continued belief in and support for the Army, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in ending insecurity and creating an environment conducive to economic growth and stability.
"The Nigerian Army looks forward to a more formidable collaboration to end all forms of insecurity and create an enabling environment for economic growth, stability and prosperity," Oluyede stated.
