Heavily armed bandits attacked Muslim worshippers during Isha (night) prayers at a mosque in Dole Moriki village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area in Zamfara State, killing one person and injuring two others.
According to intelligence sources, the attack occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday when the armed men invaded the village and opened fire on worshippers who were observing prayers in the local mosque.
"One person was confirmed dead at the scene, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries as the bandits shot sporadically at worshippers during the prayer session," a security source revealed.
Security Response and Aftermath
Following the attack, security forces have been deployed to the area as normalcy slowly returns to the community. The injured victims were taken to General Hospital Moriki, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
The body of the deceased was released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
This attack comes amid growing concerns about insecurity in Zamfara State, which has been plagued by banditry and kidnapping in recent years. Rural communities in the state have been particularly vulnerable to such attacks.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents calling for increased security presence in the area.
