Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has announced the state's readiness to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his scheduled visit to Benue on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia described the President's upcoming visit as a significant demonstration of solidarity with Benue residents, particularly in the aftermath of the recent deadly attack on Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, where dozens were killed by suspected armed herdsmen.

A Response to Escalating Security Challenges

According to Governor Alia, the presidential visit reflects Tinubu's compassion and determination to address the worsening security situation threatening farming communities across the state.

"It depicts the President's concern and readiness to take a bold step in the face of worsening insecurity threatening the peace, dignity, and existence of our farming communities," the governor stated.

He emphasized that Benue is fully prepared for the high-profile visit, which he described as "not only a moment of national empathy, but a rare opportunity to directly interface with the Presidency on urgent security interventions needed to end the persistent killings and displacement of our people."

Protecting the 'Food Basket of the Nation'

Governor Alia highlighted Benue's critical role in Nigeria's food security, stating, "If there is any state in the country that needs absolute peace, that state is Benue. This is because, as the 'Food Basket of the Nation,' Benue deserves peace, protection, and justice."

The presidential visit comes amid growing concerns over the security situation in Benue State, where farming communities have faced repeated attacks, resulting in numerous casualties and widespread displacement of residents.

Political observers note that this visit may signal increased federal attention to the security challenges in the Middle Belt region, which has long suffered from violent conflicts affecting agricultural productivity and community safety.
