Former Chelsea midfielder and Nigerian international John Obi Mikel has called on his former club to sign Cristiano Ronaldo during the current transfer window, suggesting the Portuguese star could serve as an ideal mentor for Chelsea's new signing Liam Delap.

Speaking in a recent interview with talkSPORT, the 38-year-old Mikel emphasized Chelsea's need for an experienced striker and highlighted the potential benefits of bringing Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge.

"I think it might be Al Hilal if he [Ronaldo] goes, so they are trying to make him get to the tournament which will be good, even for the fans, and for all of us to see Ronaldo and Messi compete in another tournament," Obi Mikel said, referring to the upcoming expanded FIFA Club World Cup.

"It is amazing. Ronaldo is an amazing player and top goalscorer, it will be great to see him. Doing it at Chelsea? Yes," he continued. "Of course, we need a number nine, and he is someone Delap can learn from."

Ronaldo's Future Remains Uncertain

Ronaldo's future with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr is currently unclear. The 40-year-old forward has yet to sign a new contract with the club and recently hinted that his time there might be coming to an end.

This uncertainty has fueled speculation about potential moves, with Mikel suggesting Chelsea should capitalize on the situation to strengthen their attacking options while providing valuable experience for younger players like Delap.

The Portuguese star continues to demonstrate his value on the international stage, recently breaking another record after scoring the winning goal for Portugal against Germany in the UEFA Nations League.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has been active in the transfer market, with reports indicating that Cole Palmer is set to take the club's prestigious number 10 jersey, while new signing Delap has reportedly been assigned what some fans consider a "cursed" shirt number.
