The Kaduna State chapter of the Association of Local Government Of Nigeria (ALGON) has issued a threat of legal action against Imrana Wakili for allegedly making false accusations against Governor Uba Sani regarding the purchase of vehicles for local government chairmen.
According to reports, Imrana had claimed on his X handle, @iu_wakili, that Governor Sani approved N4.6 billion for the purchase of vehicles for local government chairmen in Kaduna State.
ALGON's Response to the Allegations
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Shehu, ALGON firmly rejected these claims, describing them as "false and baseless." The association has demanded an immediate retraction of the allegation and a public apology from Wakili.
"Failure to comply with this directive will leave us with no choice but to initiate legal proceedings within seven days," the statement warned.
ALGON emphasized that Governor Sani has consistently prioritized fiscal discipline and cost-cutting measures since assuming office, contrary to the allegations made against him.
"The referenced document is a fabrication, clearly intended to mislead the public and serve as clickbait for malicious individuals seeking attention and attempting to undermine the governor's administration."
The association further cautioned those spreading what it termed "mischievous and misleading information" to desist from such acts, highlighting the potential consequences of continuing with such behavior.
Implications for Political Discourse in Kaduna
This incident highlights the growing concern over misinformation in Nigerian political discourse, particularly on social media platforms where claims can spread rapidly without verification.
The Kaduna ALGON's strong response suggests a determination to protect the reputation of the state government against what it perceives as deliberate attempts to mislead the public about financial decisions and governance practices.
As of the time of reporting, Imrana Wakili has not publicly responded to ALGON's demands for a retraction and apology.
