The Kaduna State Police Command has identified the man who breached security during President Bola Tinubu's speech in Kaduna as Umar Mohammed, describing him as a mentally ill supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan revealed in a statement on Friday that the incident, which momentarily startled the president and his security aides, occurred during a public address at a stadium in Kaduna on Thursday.
Mental Health Background
According to Hassan, the intruder, a native of Anguwan Muazu in Kaduna, "was born with psychiatric disorders and is of unsound mind." The police described Mohammed as "an ardent supporter of the President and the Governor."
During interrogation, Mohammed reportedly explained that he acted out of "anxiety and emotional excitement," expressing a long-standing desire to meet President Tinubu and the state governor.
Security Breach Details
The police explained that Mohammed had gained entry into the venue wearing the standard APC campaign T-shirt and carrying banners bearing the images of the president and governor, similar to other screened supporters.
The incident saw a visibly alarmed President Tinubu pause mid-speech as his security personnel rushed to intercept the intruder. Footage of the moment has since gone viral, sparking public concern over the breach and the president's safety during public engagements.
This incident has raised questions about security protocols at presidential events, particularly in regions with complex security challenges.
