Kano State has been thrown into mourning following the deaths of two former local government chairmen on the same day in what witnesses described as a shocking double tragedy.
Abubakar Abdullahi Likita, former chairman of Wudil Local Government Area, collapsed and died during the funeral prayer of his close friend and colleague, Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini, who had earlier died in a car accident along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
According to eyewitnesses, Likita slumped just a few meters from his friend's coffin during the prayer service and was pronounced dead shortly after, sending shockwaves through the gathering of mourners.

"It was a double blow. We came to pay our last respects to one leader and ended up losing another before our eyes," one mourner told BenriNews.
Sources confirmed that Likita had arrived at the funeral alongside Dr. Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, former Kano State Deputy Governor and APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election, before the tragic incident occurred.
Madakin Gini, who served as chairman of Dala Local Government, was reportedly involved in a fatal accident on the Kaduna-Abuja highway earlier the same day.
Funeral Arrangements
The Janazah (Islamic funeral) prayer for Likita has been scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at his residence in the Bompai area of Kano, according to family sources.
Both men were prominent political figures in Kano State, having served their respective local governments and maintained close ties in political circles.
The double tragedy has cast a somber mood across Kano's political landscape as the state mourns the loss of two of its former local government leaders.
