The Oyo State Government has moved to reassure residents of Igbeti in Olorunsogo Local Government Area following a slight earth tremor that occurred over the weekend, stating that the situation is under control.

Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that the government had immediately deployed experts to evaluate the geological event.

Cause of the Tremor Explained

According to the commissioner, the disruption resulted from physical weathering on rock formations caused by intense heat between February and May this year, followed by sudden cooling.

"This expansion and contraction lead to cracking, peeling and sheeting, resulting in minor tremors and rock movements as witnessed over the weekend," Oyelade explained.

The Oyo State Solid Mineral Development Agency (OYSMIDA), under the leadership of Director-General Mr. Biodun Oni, has dispatched a team to the affected area. Additionally, the government is collaborating with experts from the University of Ibadan to analyze the geological activity and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.

Safety Measures Implemented

While reassuring residents that no casualties were recorded during the incident, the commissioner advised those living near the affected rock formation to temporarily evacuate until a permanent solution is established.

"The government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens," Oyelade stated, adding that authorities would continue to prioritize public safety and provide updates as investigations progress.

The government's swift response demonstrates its commitment to addressing natural phenomena that could potentially impact communities across the state.
