The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State command has issued a public warning regarding a fraudulent recruitment exercise being circulated on social media platforms.

In a statement released on Tuesday from the Public Relations desk, the command categorically distanced itself from the ongoing social media recruitment, labeling it as fake and misleading.

According to the statement, scammers are exploiting the photographs and goodwill of senior NSCDC officers to defraud unsuspecting individuals seeking employment opportunities.

Official Recruitment Process

The NSCDC emphasized that any legitimate recruitment exercise would be announced through official channels and mainstream media outlets, not through social media posts or direct messages.

"We have been intimated of the social media scam by a syndicate group on unsuspecting persons using the photographs and goodwill of a senior officer in the Corps to smartly swindle individuals, groups and others of their monies through this negative scheme," the statement read.

"The Corps is using this medium to warn the general public to completely dismiss and avoid any such wrong impressions because it is a scam. If the Corps is going to recruit, there is a channel and always a general notification on such in the various media."

Investigation Underway

The command assured the public that efforts are currently ongoing to identify and apprehend those behind the fraudulent scheme.

"Before this is unraveled, we hereby dissociate the Corps and the senior officer in that fake/scam alert from such anomalies and also warn those behind to desist from such criminal act," the statement added.

This warning comes amid increasing cases of recruitment scams targeting job seekers in Nigeria, particularly through social media platforms where scammers impersonate government agencies and officials.

The NSCDC has urged members of the public to remain vigilant and verify any recruitment information through official channels before engaging or making any payments.

This incident highlights the importance of confirming employment opportunities through legitimate sources, especially in a time when digital scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
