The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that terrorism and banditry in Nigeria will soon be a thing of the past under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Speaking at the 2025 Distinguished Personality Lecture at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on Thursday, Wike highlighted the government's comprehensive approach to tackling insecurity through improved funding, training, and strategic initiatives.

Strategic Security Measures

Wike revealed that President Tinubu has approved the recruitment of forest guards nationwide to secure Nigeria's forests, which have served as hideouts for criminal elements.

"Put simply, the era of banditry and terrorism would soon come to an end," Wike declared during his lecture titled "The Nigeria of our Dreams."

"These and many other policies and measures are being put together by Tinubu to reposition our country on the path of progress and development," he added.

Recognition from State Leadership

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, commended Wike as a straightforward politician with exemplary leadership qualities. The governor specifically praised Wike's infrastructural transformation efforts in the Federal Capital Territory, describing them as visionary.

Professor Adebayo Bamire, Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, noted that the lecture's theme was particularly relevant given Nigeria's current challenges in governance, civic trust, and equitable development.

"It calls us to interrogate the structures that uphold democracy, the principles that guide responsible governance, citizenship and the strategies that can unlock Nigeria's development potential," Prof. Bamire stated.

The FCT Minister's optimistic assessment comes at a critical time when many Nigerians are concerned about the persistent security challenges facing various parts of the country. Wike's declaration suggests that the administration's security strategy may be yielding positive results that could soon become evident nationwide.
