A Benue youth group, Consolidated Benue Action Youths (CBAY), has called on President Bola Tinubu to implement effective solutions to address the escalating insecurity and violent killings in Benue State rather than resorting to condemnations and town hall meetings.
The group made this demand in a statement released on Monday in response to the President's visit to Benue State following the massacre of over 200 people in Yelellewata community.
In the statement jointly signed by CBAY's National Coordinator, Joshua Amokahaa, and Secretary-General, Emmanuel Abba, the group expressed concern that the President's actions do not demonstrate a genuine determination to end the killings in the state.
Call for Decisive Action
"The Nigerian government must be focused, decisive and constitutional in the fight to combat terrorism," the statement read. "Government must protect Nigerians from this unwarranted violence that is spreading like wild fire."
The youth group emphasized that perpetrators of mass killings must be charged before courts of competent jurisdiction and prosecuted, adding, "We are sick and tired of hearing sermons from the presidency each time that bloody pogrom takes place."
CBAY challenged President Tinubu to implement radical measures to eliminate the regime of impunity, which they identified as the root cause of the growing spate of terrorism and violent killings of innocent Benue people allegedly by Fulani herdsmen.
Military Mobilization Recommended
According to the group, the solution to the spiraling insecurity and violent crimes can be achieved through effective mobilization of military formations in the state. They urged President Tinubu to direct military commanders in Benue to join the coordinated war against terrorism by properly mobilizing their personnel and resources to end the massacres.
The statement comes amid growing concerns over the security situation in Benue State, which has witnessed numerous attacks on communities in recent years.
President Tinubu's visit to Benue State followed the recent massacre that claimed over 200 lives, highlighting the urgent need for effective security measures in the region.
