The Presidency has issued a strong rebuke to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai following his recent interview where he launched scathing criticisms against President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, accused El-Rufai of attempting to "rewrite history without evidence to support his facts" and described the coalition of opposition politicians as merely "a gathering of internally displaced politicians."
El-Rufai's Controversial Claims
During an interview on Arise Television, El-Rufai made several provocative assertions, including a claim that President Tinubu cannot secure re-election due to an alleged "91 percent disapproval rating in the North and the Southeast."
The former governor also criticized the quality of Tinubu's cabinet, dismissing it as "a joke," while discussing the opposition coalition he is reportedly part of, though he maintained they have not yet adopted any political party.
Presidency's Response
Responding to these claims on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Bwala wrote: "I listened to the interview of my elder brother @elrufai Nasir El-Rufai, on Prime Time Arise TV tonight. He didn't say anything new or outside the realm of what anyone in the opposition or coalition would say."
"What is however strange is how he tried to re-write history, and his facts were not supported by any shred of evidence," Bwala continued, before dismissing the opposition coalition as being "formed for a wild goose chase" and declaring it "dead on arrival."
This exchange marks the latest in a series of public disagreements between El-Rufai, once considered a key ally within the ruling party, and the current administration.
Political analysts note that such public spats could signal deepening divisions within Nigeria's political landscape as the country navigates through economic reforms and security challenges under the Tinubu administration.
