President Bola Tinubu's Special Adviser on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has launched a scathing attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing him as the "Commander-In-Chief of misinformation and falsehood."
Bwala's comments on Monday came in response to Obi's claims that President Tinubu has borrowed more money than his predecessors - former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Musa Yar'Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari combined.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Bwala wrote: "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the commander in chief of misinformation, disinformation and falsehood; Peter 'Gbajue' Obi."
He further claimed that Obi's supporters, whom he referred to as "The Gbajue movement," have found a new ally in "grok" but suggested that this alliance has not yielded favorable outcomes for them.
"We are focused on substantive issues raised by Gbajue and are on high alert to take down falsehood and disinformation," Bwala continued, dismissing suggestions that the presidency was troubled by Obi's criticisms.
In what appears to be a particularly pointed jab, Bwala suggested that Obi has been "downgraded and relegated to a second fiddle" and is now "struggling for that position with Rotimi Amaechi," the former Minister of Transportation.
This exchange comes amid increasing political tensions as Peter Obi has recently outlined his intention to run for president in 2027, stating he would serve for just a single term if elected.
The former Anambra State governor has been vocal in his criticism of the current administration's economic policies, particularly regarding government borrowing and management of national resources.
The presidency's strong reaction suggests that despite Bwala's dismissive tone, Obi's criticisms may be striking a chord with the Nigerian public at a time when many citizens are experiencing economic hardship.
